This was followed by the keynote address delivered by Engr. Reiniel Bandong, AAE of Belo Essentials at the Engineering Conference Hall. His speech detailed his experiences and realizations arising from his transition from an ordinary student to a full-blown student leader, and how UST ChES contributed into his journey as a chemical engineer.
“During that time nung first year ako, I was already struggling. Well, I began having doubts and I started questioning myself. But that is perfectly normal , it means that you have a lot of room for improvement. Hindi naman tayo magsesettle sa iteration kung malayo pa sa katotohanan ‘di ba but you try to iterate again. That's life and that’s how you improve yourself.”
He also imparted some words of motivation to embolden the aspiring chemical engineers.
“It is not too late yet. Marami pa tayong pupuntahan. Do not be scared to start a new journey. Keep in mind that great things never come from comfort zones. Sa mga ayaw or takot dyan at sa mga nagsasabing waste of time at energy, mawawalan ako ng time mag-aral, it’s up to you. How will you be able to manage to do things at the same time is what is important in the industry," he continued.
Afterwards, UST ChES President Arun Nanda Kumar, together with Engr. Reiniel Bandong, ChE Department Chair, Engr. Jhulimar Celedonio-Castro and UST ChES adviser, Engr. Rose Ann Tamolang, led the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Engineering Quadrangle. The ceremony also signalled the “opening” of the exhibit entitled “Cut the Rope: Exhibit,” which showcased the People of ChE, equipment and industrial chemistry products display, freedom wall, interactive mini-games, and the ChE week timeline.
The function ended with a mini salu-salo with the students and faculty members.
