The UST Chemical Engineering Society, together with other recognized organizations in the Engineering unit, established stronger connections with their members through the membership drive entitled, "Magnify: Engineering Recruitment Week" held at the facade of the Roque Ruaño building last September 5 – 9, 2017. This year’s recruitment week focuses on uplifting the organizational identities as one Thomasian engineering community.
The week-long event started with an invocation, followed by the singing of the National Anthem by One Voice Engineering Chorale. Engineering Student Council President Yna Jubas gave her opening remarks, and proceeded with the ribbon cutting ceremony, together with Faculty of Engineering Rector Rev. Fr. Roberto L. Luanzon, Jr., O.P., Assistant Dean Rhoderick D. Asis, and EDSA President Janssen Peñaflor.

This academic year, UST ChES’ membership drive was entitled, "Membership Drive 2017: The Reawakening." In line with the its main theme for the whole academic year, UST ChES adorned their booth with game inspired designs. Aside from the ChES membership, it also offered PiChE-JCL membership for those who are interested to take part in external activities. Freebies given away were ChE-inspired bag tags, and a mini periodic table of elements. UST ChES also conducted an on-the-spot picture taking for its members. It was then followed by the mini games designed to test the wits and luck of each member.
Mini games conducted include “Complete Me”, “Fill Me In”, “Wet Rings”, and lastly, “Get a Bone-rghh”. “Complete Me” is a two- player game which aims to form 4 different pictures from random puzzle pieces within a specified time limit. The game, “Fill me in” , is similar to “Complete Me” but the player must now form the UST Chemical Engineering Society Logo using a sliding tile puzzle. “Wet Rings” will make you reminisce about your childhood days with its Waterful Ring Toss Game. “Get a Bone-rghh” lets you explore the use of tongs by using it to carefully grip dog bones. The registration process ended with a satisfaction survey from the organizers.
"I think joining ChES is a way of socializing not only with other ChE students but also with the partner community involved in community development activities. You'll learn a lot of things not limited to the academe but also how to achieve holistic development," said Joyce Silvestre, a 5th year member. Darrel Santos, another 5th year member, believes that ChES helped develop his interpersonal relationship with fellow members, and gave him an opportunity to sha re memories with them.
Jinelle Coloso, project head, and Secretary of UST ChES, said, "It will always be an honor to be part of the Membership Drive held last September 5-9, 2017. The Reawakening 2017 does not simply aim to garner ChE students but to serve its freshly new members with different opportunities outside the four corners of the classroom."
She also emphasizes that the members are the heart of the organization.
"An organization without its members would not be successful, through the help of them, we are all looking forward to the success of the annual events like the Kemikalan, ChE week, the GA, LChESC and the likes. UST CHES also offers new events, not only for its current members, but also has reached the ChE alumni society."
