UST Chemical Engineering Society (UST-ChES) conducted its first event in line for the new academic year, held last August 26 at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium, entitled TFIOS: Turning Failures into Overwhelming Success, an inspirational talk that gives insights to Chemical Engineering students on how to turn every obstacle into an opportunity. Successful Thomasian Chemical Engineering alumni inspired the students with their stories about the struggles they faced along their journey as professional chemical engineers.
After the opening remarks of UST-ChES President, Ervin Luis Jayag, invited speakers, Engr. John Victor Mateo, environmental engineer at Laguna Lakes Development Authority; Engr. Juan Paolo Flores, senior analyst and materials data engineer at Shell; Mr. Dennis Mag-alasin, global manufacturing and supply NPI / product owner at GlaxoSmithkline Philippines Inc., each had their talk followed by questions and reactions from the audience, who were eager to show their interest and know more about how they can also achieve their goals in life.
A fourth-year student, Jenika Go, reacted, “Wag kang susuko at magtiwala lagi kay Papa Jesus. Kahit tingin mo wala ka nang pag-asa, still do your best. Di mo man makuha yung expected output mo, alam mo sa sarili mo na you gave it all, and since you gave it all, you regret nothing. And that God has his own way of showing you to the right path”.
When asked about his reaction about the success of the event, President Jayag said, “I was really glad about the success of TFIOS. Actually, nakakatuwa at relieving dahil na-pull through yung event even though 3 events ang naganap – last day of membership drive, presentation of Dr. Olga of Cornell University and TFIOS. Sobrang hati yung executive board and associates ng ChES that day. But then, it went well. Thanks to the inspiring stories of our keynote speakers! I hope everyone is inspired and learned something from the talk. Also, I hope everyone will actively participate on the future projects of UST ChES”.
